Marshall Home Ranch Beef is operated by Louis and Marissa Silva, along with kids and future ranchers Paisley and Reed. Together we manage all aspects of the business—-it’s a busy life but a good life! We‘re grateful to do this vital job of keeping our land healthy and supplying nutritious food to our community.
Read below to learn more about the ranches' history, our ranching philosophy and the beef we are proud to offer.

The story of Marshall Home Ranch began a long, long time ago in 1852.
Five brothers from the Marshall family left their home in Markethill, Ireland for an unknown future in America. Upon arrival in Kentucky they bought a herd of Milking Shorthorn cows, which could be used for both milk and beef. They drove the cattle west until they settled many thousands of acres in what is now Tomales, California.
Eventually the brothers sold most of their land but kept the best 1,000 acres for themselves -the "Marshall Home Ranch" where we are today.
In 1870 the brothers built the first hotel on the banks of Tomales Bay, called Marshall's Hotel. It was a prime location near the port for Schooners bringing butter and potatoes from nearby farms to the city of San Francisco. The surrounding township was named after the hotel and the town of Marshall, California was born.
We are proud to be raising the 7th generation on the same land where the Marshall brothers established their ranching legacy.

We consider this land the most important resource we have. We operate with the idea that we‘re borrowing the land from future generations.
Our priority will always be protecting our healthy soil, precious water, and clean air. Our livelihood and the future depend on it!
The ranch has an easement under Marin Agricultural Land Trust, so it is forever protected from urban development. MALT is an integral part of our stewardship, helping us utilize the most environmentally beneficial practices.

Free ranging in a coastal climate and pastured every day, our cattle enjoy stress-free lives. Our priority is their well-being! We take pride in our humane husbandry and maintain the highest standards of animal welfare.
Our beef is highly marbled, making every cut from ground to steaks tender and delicious. Free of antibiotics and hormones, our meat is natural, sustainable and high in Omega 3s. You can feel good about making our beef a staple in your home.
We offer beef shares for those that want bulk prices and full freezers. We also sell individual cuts that can be shipped, picked up at the ranch or delivered within 30 minutes of the ranch. You can also find us at the San Rafael Civic Center Farmer's Market on Thursdays.

We use our pastured beef suet to formulate all-natural, artisan tallow skincare in a variety of scents.
Tallow has been used as a skin soothing balm since ancient civilizations, and for good reason!
Its an all-natural skincare product full of nutrients, vitamins and minerals in the most bioavailable form for human skin. It contains antioxidants to fight signs of aging, and is anti-inflammatory to heal a wide range of conditions like eczema, burns, rashes, bug bites and dryness.
Our tallow balm is simple--using pastured beef suet, organic rosehip oil for extra skin benefits, and organic essential oils in the scented blends. Our products are safe and natural and can be used on face and body daily.
